font-size: 17px; color: rgb(102, 102, 102);">Summary:</span> The New Orleans Saints, long associated with losing and disappointing their fans, defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17, to win the franchise’s first Super Bowl.</p>  <p>The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts, the best teams in their conferences for most of the regular season, made it official by advancing to the Super Bowl XLIV on Feb. 7 in Miami. The Saints won the National Football Conference title, beating the Minnesota Vikings, 31-28, on Garrett Hartley's 40-yard field goal 4 minutes 45 seconds into overtime. The Colts, who scored 24 consecutive points, ended the New York Jets' season, 30-17, and will represent the American Football Conference.</p> <p>For the first time since 1993, the two No. 1 seeds advanced to the championship game.</p> <p>The Saints will play in the Super Bowl for the first time in their 42-year history after overcoming mistake-prone Minnesota, which had six fumbles and five turnovers, including two interceptions by Brett Favre.</p> <p>Peyton Manning helped the Colts overcome an 11-point first-half deficit. He threw for 377 yards and 3 touchdowns, becoming the first quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards in seven postseason games. His Jets counterpart, Mark Sanchez, threw for 257 yards with a touchdown and a late interception.</p>
